The Grand Palms was just ok for quality and selection. At $26.00 for SUNDAY Brunch its a bit overpriced for what they offer for food selection but if you enjoy Champagne with your Brunch than this place isn’t so bad. They did have over cooked Prime Rib Beef and a few other things. The brunch crab legs and peel and eat shrimp were good though and the high light of the meal for me. The service is a little rushed as they seem to be trying to get you out of there ASAP. There are much better Casino Buffets in San Diego County such as Pala Casino’s, Choices Buffet. It’s the best of them all. This place is convenient if trying your luck at Agua Caliente Casino and you will leave full. This is more of a $12.00 Buffet at best but any port in a storm. If Grand Palms was renamed to Best Cafeteria for Miles and Miles, would you all be so tough on the reviews? While it’s not casino caliber, it allowed us to have a hot nutritious sit down lunch. Here’s what we had for $14.99 per person.Starters Veggie pizza Tuscan shrimp chowder w oyster crackers Salad barPlate no 1 Baked salmon w pineapple relish Wild rice Grilled vegetables Roasted beets and carrotsPlate no 2 Steak fajitas & rice Sautéed broccoliniFinishers Cut fruits Flan Some lemon cookies Ice tea and coffeeOverall, we’d recommend dining here vs a handheld meal any day.Was here at the Aqua Caliente Casino over the Mother’s Day weekend. You may ask.. why are you there Henry? Morongo is much closer, Aqua is like in the middle of nowhere.. what were you doing there other than gambling? Well, it is to avoid the long line at Morongo’s buffet of course! Every holiday or celebration results in super long lines in buffets and we really didn’t feel like waiting, therefore, another 15-20 minute was in order for us..Once there, sure enough, not crowded at all, clean, and quickly was escorted to our table at the buffet! One gripe already.. it’s more expensive than Morongo’s buffet!!! Morongo cost $24.99 but Grand Palms cost $26.99.. oh well, I guess that $2 bucks replaces a wait in line.. oh wait.. that addition 15-20 miles has to be added too.. Once we sat down, server was nice and let us know if there is anything we need just call! So to start off on the service review part of things, we had a great experience with our server. Not sure if they are all like that but at least ours was great!Food: I’m gonna say Meh-not too bad on my rating scale.. here were some highlights..Prime Rib: Every single piece is juicy! They know what they are doing here! Perfectly seasoned, cooked, everything! Beats out a steakhouse on most days for sure! Tiny sushi selection: Did not taste good at all.Asian food station: didn’t try that much because it didn’t look too good.. wonton soup was way too salty, and soft shell crabs were salty and oily.. couldn’t even finish one.Italian: Didn’t look too tasty either.. just had some fish (don’t even remember what it’s called) it wasn’t that good at allMexican station: Took some Guacamole.. wasn’t too bad, seafood enchilada was decent as it was soft and juicy, and that was about it.BBQ carving station, along with the prime rib section, was the highlight of the night. anything on this station was super delicious.. baby back rib was tender off the bone goodness, and leg of lamb was soft and moist as well! So hit this station for sure if you go!Salad bar was very mediocre. Not too much to choose from so just expect simple lettuce salad from them.Got raw oysters and king crab legs.. just like any other buffet but the crab legs were huge so lots of meat were in them.Dessert, most of them were too sweet, so decided to try the sugarless cheesecake at the end.. it was actually tasty! So it’s definitely a recommended choice from me on this.So overall, would I pay $26.99 again? (Maybe $19.99 for the MEATs at this place!) Would I drive that far to go here again? (didn’t win with these stingy machines) Would I go back to Aqua Caliente? Yeah.. it was clean and not crowded and only if I want to inhale second hand smoking while the gamblers go at it..It’s a mediocre buffet, Morongo definitely has the better buffet between the two (in that vicinity), but if you really want to go to a great local casino buffet, definitely hit up Pala Casino and resort toward the south side. that my friends, is a True Delicious Buffet! (with a slight view too!)Having glanced at the overall rating of two and a half stars for the Grand Palms Buffet, I am struck that I am living in a parallel universe. What could have caused the negative reviewers to have such a different experience from me and my companions? Could it be a situation of unlucky gamblers getting even on the buffet because they can’t get even with their losses in the casino? Our family had our Thanksgiving at the G.P.B. as we have for quite a few other holidays. We have always found the variety and quality of most of the food excellent. I have to admit I cannot even sample one-third of the available goodies, but everything I plated was extremely edible.I was able to partake of the turkey, lamb and ham, the ham being the least enjoyable. All the accouterments were great: the usual mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, veggies and cranberry. Mint jelly was provided for the lamb; not often available in other eateries. That is mainly what I ate, but the variety is endless, Mexican, Chinese and Italian. Soup, salad and dessert are offered if you have any stomach space left. There are huge king crab legs. Now the champagne is a story all by itself. Our server, Ely, never allowed our glasses to be less than two-thirds full. Eventually, we had to beg him to cease and desist. There is orange juice to create a Mimosa if you should desire. The desserts are endless and most attractive. I can’t really comment expertly on that, because I avoid buffet desserts, thinking they all look better than they taste.I would extend to five stars if the organization was a notch better. Sometimes you have to stand in line to acquire a popular item that is located past many foods in which few people have any interest. TEAS AND BOBA
